DRAPER, Utah, May 24, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Draper City Police officers arrested a 68-year-old woman on Saturday after she allegedly choked and scratched a child who had sprayed her with water while both were in the “lazy river” area of the Cowabunga Bay waterpark.

“The child had stood near a fountain along the side of the lazy river and had splashed Marjorie,” say the arrest documents for Marjorie C. Aliprandi.

“Marjorie became upset with the child, and put both of her hands around his neck in an attempt to get him to stop spraying her. The child received red scratches on his neck.

“A strangulation form was filed out with the child and he reported feeling pressure from her hands but did not pass out. The child then exited the pool and told his mother what had happened.”

A lifeguard on duty witnessed the incident, says the arrest report filed by an officer of the Draper City Police Department.

The lifeguard “reported seeing Marjorie become upset with the child and place both hands around the child’s neck after the child had sprayed Marjorie. This life guard did fill out a witness statement of these events.”

Aliprandi was arrested for investigation of alleged:

  • Aggravated assault, a third-degree felony
  • Child abuse – intentional or knowing, a class A misdemeanor
