WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, March 6, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Police racked up scores of drivers illegally on their phones in a 3-hour targeted operation on distracted drivers.
“Driving while distracted is extremely dangerous,” the West Valley Police Department said online. “Doing anything besides looking at the road ahead and paying attention to your surroundings can lead to accidents.
“Last month, we conducted an operation to watch out for distracted drivers. In just three hours, we spotted 93 violations and made 69 stops! Nearly all of the violations were due to texting and driving or careless driving.”
The operation was based at 2800 W 3500 S, featuring a plain clothes officer on foot radioing patrol officers upon spotting drivers on their phones or otherwise distracted.
“Keep everyone safe by putting down your phone, slowing down, and paying attention to the road.”
There were stops for other violations, WVCPD said in the many comments on the Facebook post, but 95 percent of the violations during the operation were for distracted driving.
