KABUL, Afghanistan, July 13 (UPI) — The death toll from a suicide bomb at a U.S. military base in eastern Afghanistan has risen to 33, an Afghan official reported Monday.

It was originally reported that 25 people died when a car bomb exploded at a military roadblock at Camp Chapman in Khost province on July 12. The roadblock was manned by an Afghan unit which guards the camp. Twenty-three others were injured. Six security guards were among those killed, all civilians, Mobariz Zadran, the spokesman of the provincial governor, announced Monday.

The U.S. military announced shortly after the incident that no NATO coalition soldiers, including those of the United States, were injured. It remains unknown who was responsible for the blast.

Camp Chapman was formerly used as a CIA headquarters to pinpoint strikes against Afghan militants.
