WOODBURN, Ore., March 1 (UPI) — Firefighters from two Oregon counties responded to a river to rescue an adult horse that fell down an embankment and became stuck in the mud while trying to swim.
Rescuers from Monitor Rural Fire, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, Woodburn Fire and the multi-agency Clackamas County Water Rescue Consortium converged Monday afternoon at the shore of the Pudding River near Woodburn after a horse fell 15 feet down an embankment and became stuck in the mud while trying to swim.
The rescue, which was chronicled on Monitor Fire District’s Facebook page, involved a life raft and a pulley system.
The horse was back on dry land shortly after 7 p.m., about five hours after rescuers first arrived on the scene.
“Horse was doing ok, walked out with owner about 1 mile to horse trailer,” Monitor Fire District said on Facebook.
