BAGHDAD, Aug. 7 (UPI) — Nineteen women were executed by the Islamic State in Mosul, Iraq, Friday for refusing sexual advances of the militants, a Kurdish official claimed.
IS “executed 19 women in the city of Mosul during the past two days,” Said Mimousini of the Kurdish Democratic Party said earlier this week. “The penalty decision came on the background of the refusal to participate in the practice of sexual jihad.”
Mimousini added that the Islamic State’s “treatment of women and dealings with money were proving to be increasingly divisive within the organization’s own ranks.”
The executions allegedly occurred in early August. IS overtook Mosul in June.
The announcement came days after Zainab Bangura, the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sexual Violence in Conflict, revealed she had seen the often-rumored pamphlet used as a price guide by IS for child sex slaves. Abducted females are sold for sex, or to their families for ransom money, with the youngest identified as the most valuable.
