PROVO, Utah, May 7, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 27-year-old woman who was shot in the head Tuesday afternoon has died and a person of interest is in custody, Provo Police tweeted Tuesday evening.

Officials have identified the victim as Provo resident Freya Larsen.

Provo Police Sgt. Nisha King told Gephardt Daily the incident took place at approximately 4:05 p.m. near 370 E. Center St. Officials haven’t said if the shooting took place inside a residence or outside.

Larsen was transported in critical condition to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, where she died of a single gunshot wound to the head according to King.

Sgt. King said a 27-year-old man called police to report the shooting, and at this time he is a “person of interest” in the case. He has been detained, she said, and is being considered “the only involved person.”

Provo Police said there is no continuing danger to the community.

It wasn’t immediately known what the relationship was between the man and the woman.
