UTAH COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 31, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah County Health Department on Friday reported its first new confirmed measles case in multiple weeks.
The state’s measles website lists the current number of documented cases as 64, which is seven more than on Oct. 18.
UCHD said investigators are taking measures to limit further spread of the virus in that county.
“We appreciate the cooperation of community members who have answered our calls, worked closely with our disease investigators, been tested when recommended, and followed isolation guidance,” said Eric Edwards, UCHD executive director.
“These efforts are critical to protecting others and preventing additional cases.”
The department asked people to make sure they are up to date on vaccines for measles, mumps and rubella.
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Symptoms typically include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash that spreads over the body.
“People who are unvaccinated are at greatest risk,” the Utah County Health Department statement says. It also asked that people who think they may have been exposed, or who are experiencing symptoms, call their healthcare provider before visiting, so exposure to others can be limited.
Of the 64 documented cases, 61 were detected in unvaccinated patients, according to the Utah Measles Response website. Two cases were in people whose vaccination status is unknown.
The Salt Lake County Department of Health reported earlier this week that it had learned of a virus case highly suspected to be measles, but the affected person declined to be tested, so the case could not be confirmed.
The department asks that everyone with a suspected case of measles agree to be tested so the most accurate data can be collected.
