PROVO, UTAH – September 22, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Police in Provo arrested a woman in Provo early Tuesday morning after she allegedly held a knife to a family members throat and begged officers to shoot her.

According to detectives, Provo police were dispatched at 4:48 a.m. to Boulders Apartment Complex at 750 South 650 West. Dispatch told officers the caller was very distraught and hard to understand and hung up just after telling dispatch her child had been stabbed.

When officers arrived on scene, they found 22-year-old Marina Widdicombe, of Provo, holding a knife to a woman’s throat. The 24-year-old victim, who is related to Widdicombe, was backed up against a truck, with the victim in front of the suspect. Officers told Widdicombe to drop the knife, to which she replied to officers, “Shoot me or I’m going to stab her.”

The officer attempted to talk Widdicombe down, but the suspect just kept yelling, “Just do it.”

In an attempt to place the victim into the truck, Widdicombe put the knife down and officers were able to seize the victim and place her into custody.

After conducting an investigation, officers determined no-one had been stabbed. The victim suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.

Officers booked Widdicombe into the Utah County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated kidnapping.
