ERDA, Utah, March 27, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A three-car collision on SR-36 in Erda sent multiple people to the hospital with serious to critical injuries Sunday afternoon.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jalaine Hawkes said the accident happened just before 4 p.m. when a Toyota passenger car who was traveling south in the left lane drifted into the right lane and sideswiped an Acura passenger car. The impact forced both vehicles to the left and into oncoming traffic.
The Toyota then struck a pick-up headed north, forcing the pick-up to cross the southbound lanes of traffic and come to a rest on the shoulder. The Acura traveled off the east side of the roadway, through a fence and came to rest in a field. The Toyota hit the median and the unrestrained driver was ejected.
The 21-year-old driver of the Toyota was flown by medical helicopter to a Salt Lake hospital in critical condition. The 26-year-old-male driver of the Acura was not injured but his passengers, a 25-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy were transported by ambulance to a Hospital in Tooele with minor injuries.
The 44-year-old female driver and 13-year-old female passenger of the pick-up truck were transported by ambulance to a Tooele hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
All the individuals in the Acura and pick-up were wearing seatbelts.
