MAGNA, Utah, Aug. 20, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Multiple law enforcement agencies from across the Salt Lake Valley converged on Magna late Saturday night in the wake of a deadly drive-by shooting.
Unified Police Detective Ken Hansen told Gephardt Daily a 17-year-old male was killed and a second 17-year-old male wounded when shots were fired from a passing vehicle at a group of people in front of a home at 8073 W. 3380 South.
According to Hansen, one of the teens was sitting on the hood of his car when he was shot in the head.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second 17-year-old was shot in his lower extremities with what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
Two different types of shell casings were recovered at the scene, proof, Hansen said, that there were at least two types of weapons used.
The shooters are still being sought by police.
Police executed a search warrant allowing them to enter the property to further their investigation.
Hansen said it appears the shooting is gang related.
Gephardt Daily has a crew on the scene and will update this developing story as more information becomes available.
