SNOW CANYON STATE PARK, Utah, June 1, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Rescue crews responded to two emergencies Saturday at Snow Canyon State Park.

The first was a heat-related issue. A hiker ran out of water in triple-digit temperatures. The rescue took about an hour.

The second rescue took a little longer, and happened at Lava Tube Cave.

“This technical rescue required the High Angle Rope Rescue Team extricating the patient approximately 100 yards with SCIFR providing paramedic care to the patient,” says a news release issued by Santa Clara-Ivins Fire & Rescue.

Washington County Sheriff Search & Rescue crews also assisted.

A hundred yards is about the length of a football field, minus the end zones. That’s how far the patient was into the cave.

“Total approximate rescue time: 4 hours.”
