WEST POINT, Utah, July 16, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — A second man has been arrested in connection with the May 30 fatal shooting of West Point resident James Witten, 71.
Abner Aroldo Avila, 21, was arrested in California, and is being held pending extradition to Utah. An arrest warrant was issued by the Davis County Attorney’s Office charging Avila with one count of murder, a statement from the Davis County Sheriff’s Office says.
The arrest follows the earlier apprehension and arrest of Axel Eduardo Chavez Marroquin, 24, who was taken into custody by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officials in connection with the same homicide case.
He was booked into the Davis County jail on June 29 for alleged crimes including murder.
The DCSO statement says the department appreciates the assistance of the agencies that helped in the investigations and apprehensions.
The investigation remains active, and no additional information is being released at present, the statement says.
