SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 16, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Park City Painting is earning five-star reviews from some of the most discerning customers in the state, especially in Summit and Wasatch County, where clients who want to preserve the value of large investment homes are looking for the best in interior and exterior painting, wood refinishing and restoration.

That “he” would be founder/owner/operator Scott Simons, who has run Park City Painting with pride and integrity for more than 45 years. He keeps his highly trained workers fully booked through the warmer months, but winter can be slower, so he’s offering a special winter discount to customers including those outside Summit County, to keep his master painters busy and to share their top skills with new audiences.
And any customer who wants less than the best is free to look elsewhere.
“We want that customer basically for life,” Simons said. “We’re a little picky about what kind of customers we have. It’s important to have good customers. Let us tell you what we’re going to do to your house and trust us to do it. And if you can’t do that, then don’t hire us.”

Simons has fond memories of his Utah childhood, and especially remembers wowing his fellow students in a shop class.
“Once I built the doghouse, then I stained it. And everybody says ‘How do you know how to do all that?’ And I thought, ‘Man, I am stunned that nobody knows how to do that and I do.'”
Simons always enjoyed the artistry of painting and refinishing, but ended up working at Kennecott Copper. He worked there for four years, “between layoffs and strikes and stuff like that,” he said.
But Simon began to realize he would rather work for himself than punch a timecard, and build a top-notch business on principles he could be proud of.
“So I quit Kennecott, and my dad lost his mind,” Simons recalled, laughing. “He says ‘you can’t quit the best job in the whole state!’ So I started this, and I am making more money than I did at Kennecott.”
He worked with a partner for years, but they parted ways after a clash of lifestyles, and Simons began anew with Park City Painting. His strong religious beliefs allows him to focus on high standards and productivity, he said.
“We want our workers to be complete in what they are doing and to do it in the proper way,” Simons said. “There’s a sign behind me that says the last 10% is 90% of the work.”
And Simons treats his workers with respect, and says his favorite part of his job, over the years, has been the opportunity to mentor people who were interested, and to “really help people make right decisions, you know, because there’s so a lot of temptations out there that lead people away from the right direction, the right path.”
High standards are the secret both to a good life and to good business, he said.
