ST. GEORGE, Utah, Dec. 6, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — A man has been taken into custody after he told medical first responders that he had shot his “friend,” a juvenile who died from his injuries, arrest documents say.

The alleged shooter, 19-year-old Malachi Alvaro Antonio Robles, was arrested at 11:37 p.m. Friday for investigation of the alleged crimes of:

  • Felony discharge of firearm causing serious bodily injury, a first-degree felony
  • Manslaughter, a second-degree felony
  • Theft, receiving a firearm or operable motor vehicle, a third-degree felony
  • Prohibited dangerous weapon conduct, category II- firearm, a third-degree felony
  • Possession or use of a controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor

The call regarding a shooting came to dispatch at 7:42 p.m. Friday. Emergency crews responded to an apartment in the area of 400 E. 1100 South.

After the shot was fired, two other juvenile males who were present fled with the gun and hid it nearby, Robles’ arrest document says.

The court document says that, in the course of the investigation, Robles admitted to obtaining the firearm, which he believed to be stolen, from another person whom he declined to identify.

Robles admitted to being familiar with the Glock brand gun, and knowing the trigger must be depressed in order to remove the slide.

“Malachi removed the loaded magazine from the gun, pulled the trigger in the process, but upon pulling the trigger the gun fired a single round which struck the victim, ultimately resulting in the victim’s death,” says the court document, filed by an officer of the St. George Police Department.

Robles was found to have a THC vape “and admitted to using or consuming vapor from the vape prior to the incident occurring.”

Others involved in the incident “stated that the gun was stolen, and that there are other guns in the residence that they believe are stolen,” Robles’ arrest document says. It also notes that the felony shooting was “committed while on probation or parole, or while free on bail awaiting trial on a previous felony charge.”

Robles was ordered held without bail in the Purgatory Correctional Facility.
