Generally we tend to think that there are only three options as to what to do with our bodies once we die. Burial, cremation, or donating your body to science.

Bios Urn is expanding that notion by adding a new variation on cremation, which they hope will help change the way people see death by converting the “end of life” into a transformation and a return to life.

The process works like this: inside the urn there is a pine seed, (which can be replaced by any other seed or plant if you so choose). The urn itself is made from coconut shells, compacted peat and cellulose. The ashes are mixed with the urn’s ingredients and the seed placed inside.

When the urn is planted, the seed is then nourished by absorbing the nutrients from the ashes. The tree will then grow, standing as a symbol your loved one.

Instead of being buried in the ground, you can now become part of a forest and give back to the environment. You even have the choice of the type of plant you would like to become, depending on what kind of planting space you prefer. The different seed options that come with the urn are pine, ginko, maple, oak, ash and beech. Each urn costs $145 and can be ordered online and shipped anywhere in the world.

If you are interested in purchasing a Bios Urn for yourself, a loved one, or a pet, or if you would would like to learn more about them, you can do so by going to urnabios.com or their facebook.
