Go Insane with Tesla’s New ‘Insane Mode’ Button
I don’t know about you but I have never felt what going from 0-60 in 3.2 seconds in any car would feel like. Thanks to Tesla Motors however, we now have that chance.
With the recent October roll out of the Tesla Model S P85D, the $120,000 electric speedster with a 221-horsepower front motor and a 470-horsepower rear motor, Dragtimes Brooks Weisblat of had an idea. Why not film the reactions of people at the exact second they actually hit this thrill seeking option? Uncertain how I would muster up the courage to actually hit the button, it was fun to watch these brave folks bear down and go for it. We thought we would let you see if for yourselves.

The video even caught the attention of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who tweeted a link to it on Tuesday night:
Weisblat says the whole experience is about as safe as rapid acceleration could actually be. Owning one himself, Brooks vouches for the safety of the mode, even with the passengers’ reactions so seemingly freaked out. Tests have shown this acceleration creates a force of around 1.2Gs. Now tell me that’s not fast? Brooks further stated, “First of all, you do have to put your foot on the gas and push all the way down. The difference with Insane Mode is that it applies the full horsepower of the electric car’s two motors (691 horsepower) all at once”
According to DragTimes, the P85D Tesla recently beat out a Hemi V8-powered Dodge Challenger Hellcat and was named the world’s fastest production electric car. With Tesla already anticipating the pilot of a self-driving car, and now the world’s fastest electric car, it makes you wonder what could they possibly come up with next?
