BURBANK – October 6, 2015 — (UPI) — ABC Family says it is changing its name to Freeform as of January.
The announcement was made Tuesday by ABC Family President Tom Ascheim.
“Freeform evokes the spirit and adventure of our audience,” Ascheim said in a statement. “Freeform will deliver new, exciting original content as well as all the favorite shows our viewers already love on ABC Family.”
The re-branding is intended to appeal to the audience the network has identified as Becomers, people “in high school, college and the decade that follows and are navigating the wonderful, fun, exciting, and scary time in life when you experience the most firsts – first car, first apartment, first job, first love, first heartbreak.”
The network is the home of shows like Pretty Little Liars, The Fosters, Young and Hungry and Baby Daddy.
