WEBER COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 31, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — A 14-year-old boy killed in a two-car accident near Trapper’s Loop Wednesday night has been identified.

According to Weber County Sheriff’s Lt. Lane Findlay, Leland Williams of Huntsville died in the crash near Snowbasin Resort at mile marker 8.5. The exact cause of the crash, which happened around 6 p.m., is still under investigation.

Findlay said a white Lincoln Towncar was traveling southbound when it apparently hit an icy patch on the road, causing the driver to lose control. The car went into the northbound lane of travel and struck the guardrail. A white Jeep SUV that was traveling northbound tried to avoid hitting the Lincoln, but ended up colliding with it in the northbound lane.

Williams, who was a front-seat passenger in the Lincoln, was killed instantly. It is believed he suffered severe head trauma. His father, who was driving the car, was also injured, and was transported to the hospital by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Both the father and son were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.

The two adult occupants of the Jeep were also injured. One of them sustained a possible concussion and the other an arm injury. They were both transported by ambulance to the hospital and their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Trapper’s Loop was completely shut down for nearly three hours while deputies investigated the accident.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation but preliminary results show it was most likely due to slick road conditions.
