16-year-old boy arrested after stabbing in Uintah County

UINTAH COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 16-year-old boy was arrested after the stabbing of another juvenile in Uintah County earlier this month.

On Aug. 3, a sheriff’s deputy was called to Ashley Regional Medical Center in Vernal where a 16-year-old boy was being treated for a stab wound, said a news release from Uintah County Sheriff’s Office.

“During the investigation that followed, detectives learned the teen had attended a drinking party with a large group of juveniles at the sand dunes south of Naples along State Route 45,” the news release said.

“At some point during the party, the teen got into a dispute with another 16-year-old boy. The dispute turned physical and the second teen stabbed the first teen once in the right armpit with a knife.”

The pair was separated by the other juveniles at the party, the news release said. The teen who had been stabbed told investigators he was driven to the hospital by two girls from the party and left outside. He called another teen, who arrived at the hospital and helped him inside.

The injured teen is expected to make a full recovery.

After interviewing the victim and several witnesses, detectives arrested the second teen. He declined to talk to investigators and was booked into Split Mountain Youth Detention Center in Vernal.

Investigators have located the knife that was used in the incident.

Neither teen was identified due to their juvenile status.
