MINNEAPOLIS, July 31, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — Twenty-five people were injured Wednesday night when a Delta Air Lines flight out of Salt Lake City encountered “significant turbulence,” prompting the aircraft to divert to Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport.
A statement from the airline said Delta Flight DL56 was en route to Amsterdam at the time of the in-flight incident, forcing the Airbus A330-900 aircraft to make an emergency landing at MSP, “where medical personnel met the flight on arrival to assess passengers and crew.
“Twenty-five of those on board were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and care. We are grateful for the support of all emergency responders involved,” the Delta statement said.
There were 275 passengers aboard the flight, along with 13 crew members, according to local media reports. The plane landed safely about about 7:45 p.m.
“Safety is our No. 1 value at Delta, and our Delta Care Team is working directly with customers to support their immediate needs.”
Further details about the extent of the injuries or the cause of the turbulence were not provided.
