SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 18, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — An 81-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly crashed a Salt Lake City wedding and took photographs of women and children there.

A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said John Gerald Horne is facing charges of voyeurism– committed against child under 14 years of age, a third-degree felony, and criminal trespass, a class B misdemeanor.

The probable cause statement said University of Utah Police officers were dispatched to Red Butte Gardens, at 300 Wakara Way, Friday on the report of a male who had walked into a wedding reception and was taking pictures of women and children.

“It was reported that nobody at the event knew who the the male was,” the statement said. An officer arrived on scene and was able to identify the suspect as John Horne, by his Utah driver license.”

Several witnesses observed Horne of taking video of pictures of children, the statement said. One of the witnesses said she saw Horne of sitting on a bench. She observed several children ages 2 to 3 years playing on the ground and that their dresses were coming up. The witness said she saw Horne leaning down in order to take photographs and/or video of the children “in what she believed to be with their dresses up.”

After being transported to the police station and read his Miranda rights, Horne told the officer that he knew it was a private event and he wasn’t invited. He admitted to recording and taking pictures of the children dancing and said that he didn’t receive permission to take pictures and videos from their parents. Horne then requested a lawyer.

He was transported to the Salt Lake County Jail with his bail set at $5,000.
