SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 25, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 56-year-old woman was transported to hospital Wednesday afternoon after a possible medical issue caused her to plow through a cement Jersey barrier, make contact with a chain-link fence and come to rest on FrontRunner train tracks, police said.

Salt Lake City Police Department Det. Cody Lougy said about 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon officials received a 911 call of an accident in the area of 700 N. 500 West.

“Our officers arrived on scene and discovered this vehicle high-centered on the railroad tracks,” Lougy said. “As soon as a officer made contact with the driver of the vehicle, she appeared to be unconscious. He pounded on the window, unfortunately he recognized she had a medical bracelet on her. The officer broke the rear window with his baton and moved the gear shift into park.”

Fire and medical arrived as the driver regained consciousness, and she was transported to the hospital in fair condition with a medical issue.

Lougy added that the car spun around and became high-centered, stopping the vehicle and making it immobile. “The vehicle was still revving at a high rate of speed, the tires were still spinning when the officers make contact,” he said.

Lougy said investigators will be looking at the rate of speed the woman was traveling at among other things. He said it does appear the woman, who was traveling northbound of 500 West, was wearing a seatbelt.
