Crews battling 2 new Utah wildfires

SANPETE COUNTY/WASHINGTON COUNTY, Utah, June 15, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Crews are battling two new Utah wildfires Tuesday afternoon.

Utah Fire Info tweeted at 5 p.m. the Spring Fire broke out east of Spring City in north Sanpete County. The fire is estimated at between five and 10 acres. Air and ground resources are on scene.

A follow-up tweet an hour later says: “Air resources have been very effective in knocking down flames on the #SpringFire. A boys camp and one home have been evacuated as a precaution.”

At 3 p.m., Utah Fire Info tweeted the Red Mountain Fire is burning near State Route 18 south of the Dammeron Valley in Washington County. The fire is estimated at 18 acres and crews are on scene.

“Forward progression stopped,” said a tweet an hour later. “No structures threatened at this time.”

The cause of both wildfires is under investigation.
