PARLEYS CANYON, Utah, Aug. 6, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — Air and ground resources are responding to a new wildfire along Interstate 80 between the East Canyon and Mountain Dell exits Thursday night.

A tweet from Utah Fire Info at 6:45 p.m. said: “#ParleysFire located near mile marker 133 along I-80 eastbound. Estimated at 10 acres and growing. Cause unknown right now.”

A follow-up tweet from Utah Fire Info said: “Parleys Fire is now estimated at 40 acres and growing rapidly. Please avoid the area to allow for fire resources to respond and evacuation traffic to exit safely.”

By 8:30 p.m., the fire was estimated at 200 acres.

A tweet from Unified Fire Authority said: “Parleys Fire update: Mandatory evacuations of the Mt. Aire area. Structures threatened, residents are advised to leave immediately!”

There is an evacuation center open at Skyline High School.

A follow-up tweet from UFA at 9:30 p.m. said the fire is 0% contained.

“Type 3 team arriving tomorrow morning (Friday),” the tweet said. “Please be careful driving past the fire area.”

Both directions of I-80 were closed for a period, but were reopened by 9:30 p.m. The 132 and 134 off ramps on I-80 remain closed for public safety and fire operations.

I-80 will close both directions starting at 9 a.m. on Friday for fire operations from Foothill Drive and I-215 to Parleys Summit. Provo Canyon and U.S. Highway 84 are alternate routes.
