WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 27, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A fire caused $60,000 to $100,000 in damages to a commercial building in West Valley City on Thursday morning.

The fire happened at the office of Alta View Concrete. West Valley City Fire officials were called to the scene, at 6685 W. 5400 South, at about 8:55 a.m.

“There was fire and smoke coming through the roof vents of the structure,” Capt. Denver Rigby, WVCFD, said at the scene. “It didn’t extend to other buildings, and there were no injuries.”

Ribgy said the company’s office staff had not arrived when the fire was reported. Concrete workers were arriving, he said, “but I don’t know how much concrete they will be pouring today.”

The fire was knocked down within about 20 minutes, Rigby said.

The trickiest element of the whole assignment was getting there on slick roads, he said.

“You’ve got to get here quick, but you can’t do it unsafe,” he said, adding that a big concern was not causing accidents when commuters and other drivers hit their brakes in response to the siren.
