PLEASANT VIEW, Utah, Jan. 19, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A dump truck barreled through a field and into a ditch in Pleasant View Tuesday morning, leaving the driver in serious condition.
Police were called to the accident at 520 W. Elberta Drive just after 9 a.m.
Pleasant View Chief of Police Ryon Hadley said a large truck was traveling southbound on 500 West when it descended a hill at a higher than normal rate of speed.
“We don’t know if it was driver error or mechanical defect but the vehicle went through a stop sign, luckily didn’t hit anybody, went through a field, through trees and ended up in a ditch about 500 yards off the roadway,” he said.
Hadley said the driver was airlifted to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden in serious but stable condition. He said the truck is totaled and power was also interrupted to the area because of a downed pole.
The road will be blocked until about 2 p.m. Tuesday while crews remove the truck and clear the scene.
Nobody else was injured in the accident.
