HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah, June 11, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Organizers of the Hill Air Force Base air show, Warriors over the Wasatch Open House and Air Show, are issuing information about the best ways to get there.
The show, set for June 29 and 30, is expected to draw thousands of visitors to an area with limited parking.
1st. Lt. Alissa Buynak, Air Show Logistics and Parking committee lead, said the best way to avoid these delays is to ride the UTA FrontRunner to the Clearfield Station, where there will be free shuttle buses taking people to the show through an unimpeded, priority access route and returning continually throughout both days.
“While we have allocated our space the best that we can, there is a finite amount of on-base parking available, whereas we can continually shuttle attendees in from the FrontRunner,” Buynak said in a prepared news release.
UTA is providing a special Air Show Day Pass for $5, which is valid for unlimited rides on all UTA services except Paratransit. This ticket is available exclusively on the Transit app. Additionally, $15 Group Day Passes (valid for up to four people) can be purchased on the Transit app, at Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs) or by calling customer service at 801-RIDE-UTA (743-3882).
Limited off-base parking will be available at:
- The Clearfield Station, located at 1250 S. State St. Shuttle service offered.
- Weber State University Center for Continuing Education, at 775 S. University Park Blvd. Shuttle service offered.
- Northridge High School located at 2430 N. Hill Field Road “There will be NO SHUTTLE SERVICE from Northridge High School,” the news release says. “However, attendees may walk on base using Hill’s South Gate.
- The final option for parking is on base. Attendees can enter through Hill’s North Gate and West Gate beginning at 7:30 a.m. and will be directed to park in lots where it’s close enough to walk to the show entrance or a shuttle will be provided. No attendees will be permitted through the South Gate except for pedestrian traffic.
Buynak said a color code system will be in place to help people know which shuttle bus will take them back to their parking location.
“Every park and ride parking lot will have flags posted at the shuttle pick up and the same color flags will be at the bus drop off/pick up locations,” she said. “Attendees will queue in the area of the correct flag color to return them to the parking lot they parked in. Buses will also have an indication of this color when they run the route to that parking lot.”
Anyone riding a motorcycle on base must wear the required personal protective equipment, including a helmet.
Handicap parking
Limited handicap parking spaces will be available on base. Vehicles with handicap placards and license plates should enter through the left lane at the West Gate. They are asked to turn on their hazard lights and remain in the left lane signaling the traffic team to provide instructions and direct them to the appropriate parking area. Additionally, UTA will have handicap services available from the Clearfield Station to facilitate attendees who need assistance.
Lastly, parking along Highway SR-193 is strictly prohibited as it affects traffic flow and creates a safety issue. Layton Police Department may be ticketing those who park along the highway.
“We have done our best to improve the process from years past by deconflicting the pedestrian traffic, attendee vehicle traffic and bus shuttle service traffic, so it can be an enjoyable airshow for our attendees,” Buynak said.
