SALT LAKE CITY, March 17, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A fire broke out in the laundry facility at The Marriott at City Creek and had to be evacuated Tuesday afternoon.

The Salt Lake City Fire Department has ruled the fire as accidental and was blamed on “malfunctioning” laundry equipment.

According to Jasen Asay, SLC Fire official, the laundry room is located one floor down from the main floor. “Thanks to some quick thinking workers the only thing we really had to deal with was the smoke,” he said.

The fire was able to be extinguished when two workers in the laundry facility used portable fire extinguishers.

As of about 4:30 p.m. all the guests were allowed back inside the Marriott.

There were no injuries.
