BRIGHAM CITY, Utah, July 2, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — James Brenner, who pleaded guilty to the murder of 19-year-old Dylan Rounds, has been sentenced to one to 15 years in prison as part of a plea deal.
Brenner, 60, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of second-degree felony murder, and he assisted law enforcement agents in the recovery of Rounds’ remains, recovered on April 9 this year in the Lucin area.
Rounds was reported missing on May 28, 2022, and Brenner was identified as a suspect by the FBI and the Box Elder Sheriff’s Office about two months later.
Brenner was squatting in a trailer on land neighboring Rounds’ property.
Brenner was charged with murder in March of last year, even though the teen’s remains had not yet been found.
Also on Monday, Brenner was sentenced to one to 15 years for each of two counts of possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
That sentence will be served consecutively with his sentence for Rounds’ murder.
