TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, June 22, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Taylorsville police have made arrests after a fatal shooting early Saturday at a gas station.
Police responded to a shots fired called at about 3:17 a.m. and found a deceased shooting victim at a gas station in the area of 4700 South and 3600 West.
“Upon arrival, Officers located a male subject deceased in the parking lot and a number of male and female subjects on scene,” arrest documents say.
The victim was later identified as Isaiah Chavez. The people arrested have been identified as Alejandro Julian Bia, 23, Daniel Vargas Rodriguez, 19, and a 17-year-old male identified as C.L. According to arrest documents, at least Bia and C.L. are known to have gang connections.
Surveillance footage also captured a 15-year-old exchanging gunfire fire with Bia, arrest documents say, but there is no mention of whether the child was arrested.
“Through investigation, it was discovered that two vehicles carrying approximately nine people met in the parking lot of
Speedway gas station and were waiting for a text from friends on where there was a house party,” say arrest documents for Bia and Vargas Rodriquez.
“As the group was there waiting, another vehicle arrived in the parking lot, and three males exited. One of the males, later identified as Alejandro Bia walked over to the group, and shortly after two other males followed. The two other males are suspected to be Daniel Vargas Rodriguez, and 17-year-old C.L.
“The males met with the other group and according to the surveillance video, it appears that they were having a conversation. A short time later the conversation appeared to get heated, and the groups began to disperse and headed back to their vehicles.”
Bia is seen getting into the driver’s seat of the vehicle and C.L. was seen getting into the passenger side of the
vehicle.
“The victim, identified as Isaiah Chavez, walked over to Bia’s vehicle and as he came around the corner, Bia is
seen firing a weapon out the window at Isaiah. Isaiah is seen returning fire and then seen running back to his own vehicle.”
Bia’s vehicle then left the parking lot at a high rate of speed and turned west to 4700 South and then right again
onto 3600 South. Prior to turning onto 3600 West, additional shots were fired from Bia’s vehicle at the group, the arrest documents say.
“Bias vehicle drove south on 3600 south and appears to turn around to come back north on 3600 west, and as it
drove by the opposing group, an additional 10 shots were fired from Bia’s vehicle. During this last set of gunfire,
Isaiah is seen falling to the ground.”
Bia and Vargas Rodriguez face identical charges of:
- Aggravated murder, a first-degree felony
- Obstruction of justice — Capital/first-degree felony conduct, a second-degree felony
- Felony discharge of firearm, a third-degree felony
Bia faces one additional charge:
- Prohibited dangerous weapon conduct category II-firearm, a third-degree felony
Bia and Vargas Rodriguez were both ordered held without bail.
Information on any charges C.L. may have are unknown due to his status as a juvenile. They will be released publicly only if he ultimately is charged as an adult.
The three known arrests were made at residences in Taylorsville, court documents say.
