Uintah County Sheriff: Woman arrested for DUI after fiery car crash near Vernal elementary school

VERNAL, Utah, Aug. 21, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman has been booked into the Uintah County Jail after deputies say she crashed her vehicle into a utility pole near an elementary school in Vernal.

Irene DeHerrera was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence.

A statement from the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office says that DeHerrera crashed her white Dodge Stratus in front of Maeser Elementary School, 2670 W. 1000 North, Vernal.

After striking the pole, DeHerrera’s car caught fire, the statement says.

“The driver and her two young children were able to get out of the car,” according to the Unitah County Sheriff’s Office.

“The fire was quickly extinguished. The driver and the children were checked by emergency medical personnel at the scene. They did not need to be transported to the hospital.

Deputies arrested the driver, 26-year-old Irene DeHerrera, for investigation of DUI and booked her into the Uintah County Jail. Her children were released to a family member.”
