Update: Police ID man killed in Kearns shooting; 2 juveniles in custody

KEARNS, Utah, July 7, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a man killed in a shooting in Kearns Tuesday night.

“The victim is Fernando Amaya-Higareda, 23, from Kearns,” said a Wednesday morning tweet from the Unified Police Department. “Two people are in custody, they are 16 and 17 year males.”

The incident happened in the area of 5600 S. Impressions Drive at approximately 8:30 p.m., UPD Sgt. Melody Cutler told Gephardt Daily.

Amaya-Higareda was driving southbound on Impressions Drive when he was shot at from the intersection of Prairie Hills Circle, she said. That location is on a hill,  and the vehicle rolled into a park, Cutler said.

The victim was declared deceased on scene.

The juvenile suspects were taken into custody, she said. One firearm was recovered.
