ANKARA, Turkey, July 25 (UPI) — Nearly 600 suspected terrorists have been arrested in Turkey as the country’s military operations against the Islamic State and other suspected terror groups continue Saturday

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said a total of 590 suspected IS and and Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) members have been taken into custody, 302 of them early Saturday, in police operations in areas that include Istanbul, Adana and Adiyaman.

The arrests come as Turkey continues its airstrikes and ground operations in Syria and Iraq. Early Saturday, Turkish warplanes attacked camps of PKK militants in seven northern Iraq locations.

The attacks come in response to a top-level security meeting Thursday to discuss Turkey’s precautions against IS and following a suicide bombing that left 32 dead Monday on the Syria-Turkey border.

“These operations are not ‘one-point operations’ and will continue as long as there is a threat against Turkey,” Davutoglu said. The PKK said its 2013 truce with Turkey “has no meaning anymore.”
