Philadelphia Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg has announced his resignation midway through his second full season as the struggling club’s skipper.

The Phillies currently own MLB’s worst record at 26-48, which followed a 73-89 campaign and last-place finish in the National League East under Sandberg in 2014.

Sandberg compiled a 119-159 overall record since taking over for Charlie Manuel on August 16, 2013. The Hall of Fame Player was named the team’s permanent manager on September 22 of that year.
