KNOXVILLE, Tenn., May 27 (UPI) — A Delta flight diverted en route to Atlanta had pizza delivered to the passengers via a baggage cart on the tarmac in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Delta flight from Philadelphia to Atlanta was diverted to Knoxville about 2 p.m. Tuesday due to weather in Georgia and passengers soon revealed on Twitter that the captain and crew had ordered pizza for the whole plane.

“We are sitting on a runway stuck on a @Delta flight because of weather,” passenger @RileyVasquez tweeted. “So they’re throwing us a pizza party!”

“Delta continues with class,” tweeted @BillyTheKidWitt. “Stuck due to weather and the crew ordered everyone pizza. #deltaairlines.”

Delta spokesman Morgan Durrant said the pizza party was part of a new airline policy.

“It’s part of an effort company-wide when weather disrupts our operation to get food and beverages to delayed customers,” Durrant told CNN.

The flight arrived in Atlanta at 7 p.m., about three hours later than its scheduled time.
