Distress Caused By This Dress
It started out with a dress, how did it end up like this? The Internet was in complete uproar as the great debate of blue and black or white and gold raged on.
Logging into your Twitter feed you may have seen arguments of “I see blue and black” or “it’s clearly gold and white.” Maybe you decided to a little bit of midnight Facebook stalking and were surprised to see picture after picture of the same dress with friends asking “What color do you see?”
It all began when a Scottish singer, Caitlin McNeil posted the photo of the dress to Tumblr with the caption “Guys please help me – is this dress white and gold, or blue and black? Me and my friends can’t agree and we are freaking the f— out.” McNeil’s mother wore the dress to a wedding but all of her friends when seeing the photo saw different colors. Buzzfeed later posted the photo on their site asking what colors viewers were seeing. The photo quickly went viral splitting the world into two different types of people: Blue and black or white and gold.
If you’re like me and sat around a table looking at the picture for an entire hour debating with friends as to how it was possible to see two complete different colors, here is your answer. The dress is blue and black according to the British maker of the dress, Roman Originals.
An eye surgeon named Paul Dougherty told the Today show “It’s a perception issue. It’s the way the brain processes information that comes in,” he continued to say “Everyone’s brain is different, so even though it’s the same stimulus coming in, which it is, everyone processes information differently.”
The debate of the dress has gotten a large response and Roman Originals says that 300 dresses sold within an hour Friday morning. The clothing company also has mentioned the possibility to make a gold and white dress for those on the other side of the debate.
Even celebrities took part in the heated debate, see what they said below and let Gephardt Daily know what colors you are seeing.
