LOS ANGELES, Dec. 8 (UPI) — Greg Lake, the frontman of bands King Crimson and Emerson, Lake & Palmer has died at the age of 69.

“Yesterday, December 7th, I lost my best friend to a long and stubborn battle with cancer,” Lake’s manager Stewart Young noted on the rocker’s official Facebook page Thursday announcing his death.

“Greg Lake will stay in my heart forever, as he has always been. His family would be grateful for privacy during this time of their grief,” he continued.

Considered a pioneer of progressive rock, Lake is best known for songs “In the Court of the Crimson King,” “21st Century Schizoid Man,” and Christmas classic “I Believe In Father Christmas.”

Lake’s death comes months after his bandmate and keyboardist Keith Emerson died in March. Authorities announced that Emerson had died from a self-inflected gunshot wound to the head.
