TOOELE COUNTY, Utah, June 9, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Tooele County’s South Mountain Fire has been mapped, and comes in at 1,863 acres.

“Crews have worked to actively engage the fire and have been aided by the weather,” says a Utah Fire Info update issued at 3 p.m.

North Tooele Fire said firefighters have been “putting in the work! The weather worked in our favor today allowing fire crews to gain the upper hand on the blaze,” an agency update says.

“While the fire is not out, and we have no official estimate of containment, we are confident in the fact that it has been significantly knocked back. Crews will remain on South Mountain until the blaze is completely out, but for now we’re happy with the progress.”

The fire, discovered Monday, is still classified as human caused, with no specific details available.

North Tooele Fire shared some South Mountain Fire photos, but directed people to Utah Fire Info for further updates.
