Hilary Duff Says She Was ‘Too Thin’ as a Teen
LOS ANGELES, April 9 (UPI) — Hilary Duff is happy with her current figure. The 27-year-old actress discussed her appearance in an interview with Peoplepublished Wednesday. Duff came to fame as a teenager on Disney series Lizzie McGuire, and admitted to being obsessed with her weight when she was younger.
“I was too thin,” she recalled of her 18-year-old self. “That was not a healthy place for me. I was so unhappy. I remember my hands cramping because I wasn’t getting enough nutrients. A lot of girls my age were super skinny. I think it’s just as bad now, but it’s more normal.”
“It’s crazy,” she said of industry pressure to be slim. “I can’t be that way. It’s not my normal state … Things don’t bounce back the way they used to, but I don’t need to be 100 pounds. I’m a 27-year-old mother. I feel fit and strong and happy.”
Duff is mother to 3-year-old son Luca with NHL star Mike Comrie, from whom she filed for divorce in February after a lengthy separation. The actress released new single “Sparks” this week, and recently dyed her hair blue in keeping with her life changes.
“It’s like a muscle, you got to get back in there and figure out what you want your sound to be like,” she told Extra of her upcoming album Tuesday. “I also have a child and a TV show, so I try not to put too much pressure on myself to get it out to please everyone, it really needed to be right.”
Duff released her fourth studio album, Dignity, in March 2007. The actress currently portrays Kelsey Peters on new Darren Star (Sex and the City) series Younger, which airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET and co-stars Sutton Foster and Debi Mazar.
