DUCHESNE COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 15, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Details are sketchy but an oil field fire and possible explosion in the Uinta Basin in Duchesne County Wednesday left at least one person severely burned.

Calls to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday night were not immediately returned. But members of a Christian chat group online at about 8 p.m. began asking for prayers for the injured in the Duchesne oil field accident, sharing some details of the fire and apparent explosion.

Specific references were made to a truck driver who reportedly suffered burns to 80 percent of his body in the Wednesday morning mishap. Commenters who identified themselves as his family members joined the call for prayers. The site had drawn 135 comments by 11 p.m. Wednesday.

The Uintah County Sheriff’s Office’s Central Dispatch provides emergency dispatch services for Duchesne County, Uintah’s immediate neighbor to the west.

Uintah dispatchers said they could not provide any details on the oil field incident except that it occurred in Duchesne County, deferring all calls for information to the Duchesne County Sheriff’s Office.
