SALT LAKE COUNTY, Utah, June 12, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued flood watch for Little Cottonwood Creek through Friday morning.

The NWS Salt Lake City tweeted “excessive spring snowmelt runoff is expected to push Little Cottonwood Creek to near flood flow Thursday afternoon.”

Damage is possible in valley areas adjacent to the creek, the tweet said.

A flood watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts, the tweet said.

“You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.”

Last Thursday afternoon, a young boy was pulled from Little Cottonwood Creek in Murray, officials said.

A 4- to 5-year-old male fell into the creek in Murray City Park, according to the Murray Fire Department

A bystander pulled the child out and a police officer assisted them both when he arrived.

The little boy was transported to the Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.
