Murder Suspect Extradited From Mexico Back To Utah
UTAH – July 21, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Detectives from the Weber County Sheriff’s Office have received the long-awaited news that murder suspect, Gutberto Heras-Corrales, has been extradited from Mexico back to Utah.
Heras-Corrales is facing aggravated murder charges in connection to the death of Noemi Rodriguez. A snowplow driver found Rodriguez’s body on the afternoon of December 26, 2008, at the Huntsville City Cemetery, 6000 E. 100 South. Rodriguez was 26 at the time of her death and the mother of three children.
Heras-Corrales fled to Mexico and investigators worked closely with the U.S. Marshals Service and the Department of Justice for several years in an attempt to locate him.
In 2012, a detective with the Sheriff’s Office filed a Provisional Arrest Warrant (PAW) and, with the assistance of federal authorities and Interpol, persuaded the Mexican government to recognize the arrest warrant for Heras-Corrales.
In January 2013, Mexican authorities arrested Heras-Corrales in Culican, Sinoloa and detained him for the next year and a half while he awaited extradition back to the United States.
Heras-Corrales, 39, is currently being held in the Weber County Jail on $500,000 cash-only bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday, July 22, on the charge of aggravated murder.
He is also facing arson charges in Davis County for burning down Rodriguez’s mobile home on December 20, 2008, just five days before her murder.
