Update: Police say domestic argument led to Layton shooting

LAYTON, Utah, Feb. 22, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have released more information on an incident in which a 35-year-old man was fatally shot Thursday night at a home on West Park Avenue.

“The man who was shot came to the Park Avenue residence to confront the homeowner about a relationship he believed the homeowner was having with his ex-girlfriend,” Layton City Police Department said in a news release.

“The man entered the home uninvited, a physical altercation ensued between the two men, and the homeowner shot the man several times.”

Layton Police Lt. Alex Davis told Gephardt Daily the 911 call was received at 6:47 p.m., and the 34-year-old homeowner who fired the shots was cooperating with authorities.

“The shooter is the one who called 911 to notify us and summon medical help,” Davis said.

The victim was transported to Intermountain Hospital in Layton, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators were still in the process of interviewing the homeowner and other witnesses late Thursday night, and no arrests have been made at this time.

No names are being released pending notification of family members.
