BONNEVILLE SALT FLATS, Wendover, Utah, Sept. 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who was driving on the Bonneville Salt Flats on Sunday for World of Speed — a multi-day event at which racers attempt to set speed records — crashed his vehicle while traveling at well over 300 miles per hour.

“The guy crashed his vehicle at about 350 mph,” Officer Nic Francis, Wendover Police Department, told Gephardt Daily. “He was in critical condition.”

Francis said he arrived on scene at about 12:30 p.m., when the man was being loaded into an ambulance to meet the medical helicopter dispatched to pick him up. The medical helicopter landed near Interstate 80 at a point 23 miles east of the Utah-Nevada border.

The victim’s name and age have not been released, nor have details of his injuries.

Francis said he was not aware of what type of racing vehicle the man was driving.

Gephardt Daily will have more information as it becomes available.
