ROY, Utah, Aug. 18, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Investigators in Roy are on the scene of an officer-involved shooting that sent one man to the hospital Saturday night.

Sgt. Josh Taylor, Roy City Police, told Gephardt Daily the “suspect” was shot about 7:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 5650 S. 2775 West.

According to Taylor, the wounded man was taken to the hospital, but Taylor had no information on the suspect’s condition or the circumstances leading up to the gunplay.

Amateur video recorded at the time of the shooting showed a large police presence, followed by the sound of numerous gunshots.

Police moved quickly to cordon off the area and called for investigators from the Weber County Officer-Involved-Critical-Incident Team to be sent to the scene.

There are unconfirmed reports the suspect was fleeing officers on foot at the time of the shooting and that at least one residence and a fence were struck by gunfire.

No officers were injured, Taylor said.

“Further updates will likely come from the Weber County Attorney’s Office and any of the involved officers will be placed on administrative leave during the investigation pending its conclusion.”

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
