MILLARD COUNTY, Utah, June 8, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — The Tower Fire, raging since Sunday afternoon in Millard County, has now burned 1,287 acres.

Burning south of Scipio near Interstate 15, the fire now stands at 10% contained.

The Tower Fire, first announced by Utah Fire Info in a 1:50 p.m. post, is believed human caused. Like the Stillwater Fire, in Utah County to the north, is believed to be the result of sparks from target shooting.

The Stillwater Fire is believed to be holding steady at 30.8 acres and 35% contained.

“There are still pockets of heat within the burn area around the juniper trees,” says a Stillwater update issued at 9 p.m. Sunday. “Engine 395 from the state of Utah will remain on scene overnight and monitor the fire.”

Central and Southern Utah are under critical fire weather conditions now through Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Today, widespread southwesterly winds with gusts of 30 to 40 mph, combined with very low relative humidity will result in a period of critical fire weather conditions, which will last through this evening, the NWS graphic says. The strongest gusts are likely across western Utah, it says.

On Tuesday, conditions continue, producing critical fire weather conditions mainly across the eastern half of Utah.
