SACRAMENTO, March 4 (UPI) — A homeless man in California found employment after waiting on local streets and handing out his printed resume to passersby.
Michael Marteen shared photos of 52-year-old Frederick Callison, a former line cook, after he spotted him outside of a grocery store in Sacramento.
“This homeless man was sitting outside of Smart and Final not asking for money. His sign said ‘Need work, and hungry’ not just that but he had multiple resumes printed out and enveloped,” he wrote.
Callison moved to Sacramento from Washington two years ago hoping to be a line cook for the Salvation Army, according to the Today show.
When the opportunity fell through he was left homeless and pushes carts for the Smart and Final store in exchange for the right to hand out his resumes on the premises.
Marteen shared Callison’s resume with colleagues he’d met while working at a catering company and eventually connected with a downtown restaurant called Pizza Rocks, which offered Callison a job.
“He was ecstatic about landing a job and very grateful for the opportunity,” said Marteen.”He was up the night before studying the menu for hours.”
Pizza Rocks provided Callison with work clothes as well as a temporary place to live.
