STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado, June 17, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Two people were killed Monday afternoon when a plane headed to Ogden, Utah, crashed into a Colorado mobile home park.
The pilot and passenger in the twin-engine Cessna 421 both were killed when the plane went down in the West Acres Mobile Park in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, the Steamboat Springs Police Department stated on social media.
No other information about those killed in the plane crash was immediately released. The Routt County coroner is working to identify next of kin, according to police.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the deceased,” the post says.
The plane was believed to be en route from Longmont, Colorado, to Ogden when it crashed about 4:20 p.m. short of the Steamboat Springs Airport, according to Steamboat Springs Fire Rescue.
All residents at the mobile home park have been accounted for, Steamboat Springs officials said. No injuries to residents were reported.
The crash resulted in fires to two mobile homes and several outbuildings, according to SSFR.
Routt County Crisis Support and the American Red Cross have been on site providing resources and assistance, and the county’s office of emergency management is working with impacted residents.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash. Witnesses reported aircraft issues, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation, according to SSFR.
