GRAND COUNTY, Utah, July 22, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Human remains have been discovered in Millcreek Canyon in Grand County in the same search area where a Texas couple went missing following flooding last month.

The Grand County Sheriff’s Office said the remains have been sent to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner and have not been positively identified as Ray and Maranda Ankofski, who were last heard from June 21.

“Once identification has been determined, we will release that information when it becomes available,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release Monday night.

Ray and Maranda Ankofski, ages 58 and 51, were visiting southern Utah when Grand County and the Moab area experienced a severe thunderstorm that caused flooding and rockslides, and washed out trails and roads.

The couple’s ATV was found in a ravine in the Steel Bender Trail area southeast of Moab, according to the sheriff’s office.

A search involving several agencies was unsuccessful in locating the missing couple.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
