MOAB, Utah, May 3, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Grand County High School Principal Todd Thompson has been fired from the school over licensing issues.

Thompson “improperly failed to disclose the existence of a licensing action in South Carolina involving breach of an employment contract,” leading to his dismissal from the Moab school, Grand County School District Superintendent Taryn Kay said in a letter Friday.

Thompson’s last day at the school was Thursday, Kay said.

The licensing issues prevent Thompson from being employed by the district “in any capacity,” the superintendent said.

“As a District, we want to assure the community that this licensing issue posed no threat to the wellbeing of the students in our care,” the letter says.

“We appreciate Mr. Thompson’s leadership of Grand County High School these last two school years and wish him the best of luck in the future. Please rest assured that GCHS students and staff will be in solid administrative hands for the remainder of this school year.”

District career and technical education director Cari Caylor and assistant princiapl Alanna Simmons-Cameron will work with Kay “to ensure that students, staff, parent and community needs are met efficiently, effectively, and with care and compassion,” the letter says.

“Moving forward, we will find an excellent candidate to be GCHS’ next principal,” Kay wrote.

The new principal’s tenure will begin Aug. 1, she said.
